Breaking Down Hamson the Curious Pig

What’s Hiding Behind the Filth?

In partnership with

Hamson, the Curious Pig, began as a plot device for a slasher film I was cowriting with my friend, indie comics artist and fellow Kentuckian, Kurt Belcher. In the story, the killers wear pig masks and Hamson was part of the backstory we created which grew and became a much larger part of the story as did his creator, Geoffrey Loftidottir.

The crude nature of both the topics/content and the artwork were as intentional as his constant jabs at the violent circus our modern socio-political world has become.

However, as often happens, the character really came to life on his own and started to serve a larger purpose for me by providing an outlet through which I really enjoyed expressing my own frustrations much in the way that we had attributed to Loftidottir in our story.

The strip I am presenting here was created long after we had SPREAD: Pigs to Slaughter finished. Kurt Belcher, Michael Spivey and I have continued to create comic strips beyond the 40 that were created for the production and plan to continue as long as we need him to scream out our frustrations for us.

Take a look at this strip and let me know what you see.

Hamson is crude on the surface… but is that all there is?

Like many Americans, I was devastated when we had to face the fact that Kamala Harris would not be our next president back in November of 2024. This Hamson strip probably has as much or more packed into it as any that we ever created, and is a standout as one of my very favorites.

Hopefully you took a second to look at it and note what stood out to you.

For me, like all the Hamson strips, I wanted there to be the very obvious “comic strip” hit of the whole thing which is rooted in the inquiry made by our skeptical swine as he belts out “What the Actual F@#k?” while the flabby orange traitor dances around  celebrating his victory with the VP of a thousand faces, JD Vance. But… there’s more there! I promise…!

As you start descending through the layers of filthy details you notice:

  • JD Vance has a swastika tattooed on his bare butt, eye makeup caked around his eyes almost goth-style…

  • While he enjoys a romantic interlude with his seemingly unwilling sofa to celebrate his victory.

  • With the demented orange moronic convicted sexual assaulter, we see that he is wearing nothing but his soiled diaper and chugging from a jug marked “Russian Hooker Piss” declaring accurately that “Putin Won!”.

  • He is ready to celebrate with some sexual assault on the first unfortunate woman to cross his path and dressed for the part and…

  • Since it is well-known that this feces wrapped in saggy orange sausage-skin swears that he has never drank alcohol, it made more sense for him to be drunk on power and imbibing a liquid the entire world is more confident he is very acquainted with.

For me, the really important details though are going on with Kamala and the Statue of Liberty:

  • They have joined hands and are quietly exiting the scene.

  • First, we see that both of these ladies are walled off from the other characters by their own shadows which grow the further they move away into the distance.

  • As females, they are both faceless in the world in which people like these soulless authoritarians celebrate.

  • The two women are together though, joining hands and even sharing responsibility as Kamala carries the torch of justice for her companion.

  • There is a quiet dignity and certain power to their departure that is apparently completely alien to, and beyond the grasp of any and all who favor this current regime.

Is Hamson the Curious Pig crude? Are the comics designed, written and illustrated for shock value? Yes, definitely. Hamson’s filth is deliberate — but what do you see hiding in the muck? Drop it in the comments and I’ll respond.

Is Shadow IT already in your organization?

You wouldn’t allow unmanaged devices on your network, so why allow unmanaged AI into your meetings?

Shadow IT is becoming one of the biggest blind spots in cybersecurity.

Employees are adopting AI notetakers without oversight, creating ungoverned data trails that can include confidential conversations and sensitive IP.

Don't wait until it's too late.

This Shadow IT prevention guide from Fellow.ai gives Security and IT leaders a playbook to prevent shadow AI, reduce data exposure, and enforce safe AI adoption, without slowing down innovation.
