🐎 Bedbugs, Beards, and Bad Decisions

Let me take you back.

Before we had a script, before there was a cast, before I had a clue what the hell I was really even doing—I was living in a busted-up rental house in North Hollywood. If you have ever heard me talk about it, I refer to it as "The Shithouse." There was a 96-year-old woman dying in the living room, two of the wildest housemates imaginable, and more bugs than common sense—roaches, ants, and yup… bedbugs.

I’d just gotten stranded by the Crooked Brazilian, and somehow, that chaos became the launchpad for what Amanda and I would later call Vengeance Turns: The Motion Picture. I was recruiting actors, planning shots, and breathing in a cloud of poison every night while praying to wake up itch-free. That was just the start. And honestly, it kinda seems like it had to start there.

🎬 Highlights

• I met Jamald Gardner on a Disney background gig surrounded by kids. Big dude. Old soul. He told me his dream was to play a villain in a Western. So I wrote Jefferson Coletrain just for him.

• I took archery lessons in Pasadena. Got back on a horse for the first time in 30 years while in Texas. I never ask actors to do what I won’t do myself.

• And social media? Man, I thought if I built the pages—Instagram, Facebook, whatever—they would come. They didn’t. Turns out that part’s a grind too. Maybe one of the worst parts of this whole business for me personally.

🎨 Comics Before Completion

Amanda and I got so deep into the characters that their backstories started turning into their own stories… then into comics.

The first one? Growing Pained – About Simon Coletrain, Jefferson’s son. A story about growing up crushed under the weight of someone else's sins.
